Dell and Intel Launch Experience Store in Karachi

Dell and Intel Pakistan have jointly launched their latest experiential marketing centre in Karachi. The centre, called the Experience Center, is the second such location opened by the international computer giants in Pakistan. The first Experience Center opened in Lahore on 13th April 2012 to considerable acclaim as the first experiential computing centre in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion Country Manager Dell Pakistan, Shahzad Aslam Khan said, “Technology is now evolving at a much greater pace than at any moment in the past. Understanding this fast-evolving tech environment we at Dell are bringing our latest products under one roof for our customers to experience. Through the launch of this Experience Center we intend to offer the people of Karachi an unmatched buying experience.”

Ban on YouTube to Stay: LHC

Lahore High Court has turned down a request to temporarily open YouTube in Pakistan.

While hearing a petition filed for re-opening of YouTube, the court asked the Ministry of Information Technology to tell on July 25 to how to block access to specific URLs, which are blasphemous in nature.

The video-sharing website has been blocked in Pakistan since September 17th 2012 following protests about a 14-minute trailer of the film Innocence of Muslims.

Then prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had ordered the ban after YouTube denied to block the access of movie to Pakistani audience at the Pakistani government’s request.

Bytes For All, an NGO, moved the court in January seeking lifting of the ban.

During yesterday’s hearing, the petitioner’s counsel told the court that instead of blocking access to the entire website, only the objectionable material could be blocked.

Huawei Hints a Manufacturing Facility in Pakistan Against Tax Exception

Huawei has said that it can open a manufacturing facility in Pakistan if government of Pakistan facilitates them with custom duty and taxes.

Tang Qibing, Vice President, Huawei Technologies, said this during a meeting with Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan when he was travelling from Beijing to Shanghai through high speed train.

Huawei high-up, while showing his concerns over the taxes and duties, was confident about the viability of a manufacturing facility in Pakistan.

Tang Qibing said that company is engaged in various telecommunication projects with Mobilink and Ufone, hinting that company will be interested in locally manufactured telecom equipment in the long run if facilitated by the government.

7-Point Action Plan Proposed for Cyber Secure Pakistan

o address security issues related to the internet , Senate Committee on Defence and Defence Production organized a policy seminar on “Defending Pakistan Through Cyber Security Strategy” in coordination with Pakistan Information Security Association (PISA) yesterday at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Islamabad.

Senator Mushahid Hussain, Chairman of Senate Committee on Defence and Defence Production, in his welcoming address, said that the cyber security threat can affect Pakistan’s national defence, security, intelligence, diplomacy, nuclear and missile programme, economy, energy, education, civil aviation as well as industrial and manufacturing units both in the private and public sector. “Cyber security is an issue of paramount importance for Pakistan’s stability and progress.”

FIFA 13 Arrives to Nokia Lumia but not Windows Phone

Telenor Finally Reacts to High Taxes, Tightening Regulations and Service Suspensions

Telenor yesterday decided to go hard on government against all the odds that telecom industry has been facing for past 2-3 years.

Telenor came up with an aggressive response when Lars Christian Luel, CEO, Telenor Pakistan, threatened Pakistani government to pull out of expected 3G auction by saying that company could find better places to invest as business case in Pakistan has weaken due to increased taxes, government-forced service suspensions and new regulations foe sale of new SIMs.

In an interview with The News and Express Tribune, Telenor CEO said that telecom companies aren’t money making machines and hence government will have to come up with rational policies to attract more investments. If not, then Telenor will pull out its investment – planned for 3G — from Pakistan to obtain better return on investment from other markets.
